ABOUT PALOH
THE BIG BEAN

Paloh the BIG bean is a specialty coffee born from a love for the rich heritage of locally grown Liberica coffee beans in Paloh.

By chance, we discover Paloh’s coffee beans and its long coffee-growing heritage spanning 70-80 years. Interestingly, Paloh's coffee plantations feature Liberica beans, which are known for their large bean size and unique flavors. This discovery inspired us to launch our venture, named Paloh the BIG bean.

WHY PALOH
THE BIG BEAN

Image

Large Bean Size

Not known to many, Liberica coffee beans are among the largest globally. Larger beans typically offer better flavor due to the extended time the plant had to grow and ripen, and consequently, the bean had more time to develop its aroma and taste.

Image

Rare and Limited Supply

Liberica coffee accounts for only 1% share of the global coffee market. This places Liberica coffee in a very niche position. Our commitment to this unique coffee variety reflects our dedication to offering a truly exceptional and exclusive coffee experience.

High Quality

We place a strong emphasis on the quality of our coffee beans. Unlike commercial beans, Paloh the BIG bean is 100% handpicked and undergoes careful processing to ensure high-quality beans in every cup.

Unique Flavor Profile

With all processes from planting to handpicking, roasting, and processing taking place within Paloh region, we can preserve the best flavor. Additionally, attributed to the larger bean size, the slower extraction during brewing results in a more nuanced and balanced flavor profile.

MEANING BEHIND THE BIG BEAN
LOGO & UNIQUE PATTERN

Image

Straw Hat:

The straw hat represents exposure to sun and rain, symbolizing resilience against all weather conditions. It signifies the hard work of farmers, acknowledging the effort that goes into every grain. The conclusion is clear: no matter the difficulties, we maintain a steadfast and resilient spirit.

Meaning of the Hands:

The hands symbolize silent cultivation, from seed to cup, illustrating the hard work involved in every step. Each step is taken with diligence, leading to the formation of the whole bean, representing our achievements. The figure wearing a straw hat, holding tools, and greeting with a smile embodies hard work and optimism.

The unique pattern features four interconnected beans, each symbolizing a crucial aspect of our coffee journey:

  1. Growing: Represents the initial stage of nurturing and cultivating the coffee plants.
  2. Processing: Signifies the meticulous care taken during the harvesting and processing stages.
  3. Roasting: Highlights the expertise and precision involved in roasting the beans to perfection.
  4. Healthy: Emphasizes the health benefits and quality of the final product.

The green lines connecting the four beans symbolize vitality and life force, linking all stages of the coffee process together. The use of two different colors represents the transformation of the coffee beans from raw to roasted, illustrating the journey from cultivation to the finished product.

This logo encapsulates our commitment to quality and the thorough process behind every cup of coffee.

PALOH
THE COFFEE “Xīǎo Zhèn”

Paloh is a small town in the state of Johor, Malaysia, which was once known as the “Coffee Xīǎo Zhèn” or "Coffee town" in the 1970s. For the past 70-80 years, Paloh has been cultivating locally grown Liberica coffee beans, providing some of the highest-quality specialty coffee beans that, unlike commercial coffee beans, were not widely known to many.

Over the years, the coffee bean plantations have gradually reduced due to the cultivation of more profitable crops, making Paloh coffee increasingly rare.
